The Independence Hall of Korea is a place dedicated to display Korean history from past to present, focusing on the independence movements of the Japanese colonial period. This Independence Hall encompasses the full range of Korean history to offer better understanding on the Korean cultural heritage and to enrich knowledge, patriotism, and sheer enjoyment of Korean people. Devoted to collect, preserve, exhibit, study and research the materials and resources about Korean history, visitors would learn the wisdom of Korean ancestors in overcoming a national crisis while reminding Koreans of their national consciousness.

 

1982

 

  December 23 The construction site of the Hall was determined
  October 05  The Independence Hall Construction Committee was organized.
  August 31    Korean government launched the fund-raising campaign to fund
                       and contribute materials for the building.
  August 23    Korean government promoted a project to build the Independence Hall                        of Korea.

1983

 

  August 15    The groundbreaking ceremony

1986

 

  August 20   The Independence Hall Construction Committee was dissolved, and
                      the Independence Hall of Korea Corporation organized.
  May 09        The Independence Hall of Korea Law was enacted (Law No. 3820).

1987

 

  August 15    The Independence Hall of Korea opened to the public.  

1993

 

  April 13       Korean Provisional Government building in Shanghai was restored
                      and opened.

1995

 

  August 15    Completion of "the Wishing Mound" for the unification of Korea.
  August 11    The Korean Provisional Government building in Zhongqing was restored
                       to display related collections.

1997

 

  August 15   10th anniversary of the Independence Hall of Korea.

1998

 

  August 11    The former Joseon Viceroy Department was re-built.
