as the main memorial hall. The tile-roofed house is the largest
in Asia, as big as a 126 by 68 meter long soccer field. The building's
height reaches almost 45 meters (equal to a 15 story building).
The roof is built on a counter lifted style called " matbaejibung",
which was also used in the main building of Sudeok temple from the
Goryeo Dynasty. The Grand Hall of the Nation is even bigger than
the Tiananmen in Beijing.

The Reunification Monument is a sacred place where people pay visit
to pray for peaceful unification between North and South Korea.
The main symbolic structures are rainbow- shaped arch towers on
top of the mound. Right under the arch towers stands the unification
bell, where Koreans can send "unification messages" in
the form of light and sound. A special aspect about this place is
that individuals can donate bricks for this site engraved with their
wills and wishes for peaceful unification.

A Monument to the Nation symbolizing the forward progress of Korea
resembles praying hands as well as the wings of birds flying into
the azure sky. Embossed on the back front and back of the monument
is the Korean flag and on the inside of the monument, mosaic patterns
featuring a blue dragon, white tiger, phoenix and a Hyeonmu (an
imaginary animal) are used to decorate the four walls. A map of
the Korean peninsula is carved on to the granite floor and a bronze

This statue stands in the middle of the large hall in the Grand
Hall. To enrich patriotism and to reflect national consciousness,
the images of the Korean independence movement and the undying spirit
of Korean people are well displayed in this statue. 274 pieces of
granite stones (3-4 ton each) were used to make this statue. Each
piece was carved individually and then put together later to complete
the grouped statue. Carved on the back of the statue is Cheonji
Lake of Baekdu Mountain, symbolizing the bright future of Korea
through prosperity, sovereignty, and unification. Tourists can almost
feel the erupting energy of Baekdu Mountain from the statue. The
soldiers of the Korean Independence army are also carved at both
ends of the backside of the statue to commemorate their grievous
struggle against Japanese oppression and brutalities.

Patriots Memorial commemorates Korean ancestors who offered their
lives to guard their country and the everlasting prosperity of Korea.
The site is located at the northern end. 105 meters-long and 3~7.5
meter high of beautifully carved walls surround the Memorial Site
like a windscreen, in the middle of the stone altar there is a continuous
flowing fountain. Two torches are placed at both ends of the carved
stonewalls.

The basic idea of displaying these removed parts is to teach historical
lessons of humility and to reflect the serious questions over the
dark history of Korean. It can be also used for outdoor forums to
discuss and express one's opinions about Korean history and its'

The size of this pond is about 26,400 square meters (8,000 pyeong)
and can hold 50,000 tons of water. The origin of this water can
be traced back to a small spring at the top of Heukseong Mountain
irrigated through an open channel. Along with a smoothened waterline
around the pond, stones in the rough, clean sand and trees are arranged
beautifully to create a peaceful rest area.
