On March 1, 1919, the Korean provisional government issued a Declaration of Independence of Korea and a nation-wide independence movement erupted throughout the Korean peninsula. The harsher the persecution, the wider and stronger the movement was. Even Korean expatriates overseas joined in the movement vigorously to show the undying desire for Korean sovereignty around the world. The 1910 Independence movement also triggered and instigated other independence movements in other countries under Japanese ruling like the May Fourth movement in China. In this area you can find exhibitions about the independence movement that occurred in and out of Korea.

In this part of the exhibition hall, you can find photographic details of Japanese war atrocities and brutalities.
